Job Summary

Are you a skilled and passionate engineer with a knack for connecting complex healthcare systems? As an Interoperability Engineer, you will play a critical role in the advanced design, implementation, support, and maintenance of seamless interoperability solutions for our customers. You'll collaborate closely with customers and internal/external teams to ensure successful integration projects. This position demands advanced troubleshooting abilities, a solid understanding of our products and platforms, and the acumen to effectively prioritize and resolve issues by building strong relationships with both our clients and internal stakeholders. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and support robust integration solutions for our healthcare customers. This includes enabling effective communication between RIS/PACS/RADAR systems (or supporting infrastructure/applications) and various third-party applications.

  • Partner with the Interoperability Lead to thoroughly understand and document customer-specific workflows and translate them into clear project requirements.

  • Independently manage assigned integration projects, providing proactive and consistent updates on project scope, requirements, resource allocation, and delivery timelines.

  • Facilitate knowledge transfer of technical integration solutions from Development teams to relevant internal teams, ensuring comprehensive understanding and support capabilities.

  • Rigorously test and analyze integration processes against system specifications to guarantee accuracy and reliability.

  • Implement and maintain robust data security protocols and ensure all integration processes adhere to relevant healthcare compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA).

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation encompassing integration configurations, data flow diagrams, and detailed troubleshooting procedures.

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities for automation and optimization of integration processes and data exchange workflows to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reliability.

  • Actively participate in troubleshooting complex integration issues, utilizing strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

  • Maintain effective communication with customers and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle, providing timely updates and managing expectations.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Proven expertise in SQL (PostgreSQL), including querying, stored procedure development, and database maintenance/management.

  • Demonstrated experience working with complex software applications and intricate networking environments.

  • Solid foundation in programming/scripting, with a strong preference for JavaScript.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, including but not limited to HL7 (v2, v3, FHIR), and DICOM.

  • Hands-on experience with message brokering engines such as Mirth Connect, Epic Bridges/Interconnect (formerly Ensemble), Corepoint Integration Engine, or other HL7-based messaging platforms.

  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities with a proactive and analytical approach.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work in fast paced environment.

  • Completes job responsibilities in a quality and timely manner.

 

Physical Demands

This position often requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching with hands and arms, using hands and fingers, handling or feeling, speaking, listening and high-level cognitive thinking. This position also requires the ability to lift boxes and equipment up to 50lbs. Must be able to use a computer and other office machinery, including copiers, scanners, and computer software.

 

Working Environment

This position is hybrid, with travel to an office less than 10%.
