Job description

The Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for overseeing the R&D Function day-to-day financial operations, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. The role will partner closely with the R&D leaders to provide actionable financial insights, improve financial discipline, and support strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate will combine strong accounting fundamentals with commercial and analytical capabilities and will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Job requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Own the annual planning cycle for the function end to end, including the calendar, templates, cost definitions, and the consolidated plan submitted to the Head of Finance and Strategy.

• Build the scenario and sensitivity models that inform investment, headcount, and procurement decisions, and frame the trade-offs for the leaders who decide.

• Challenge the business assumptions behind functional plans with R&D and Product leaders, and quantify the financial consequences of the alternatives.

• Judge which variances matter, decide how they are investigated, and take the resulting recommendations to functional leadership.

• Set the reporting standards, cost definitions, and analytical tooling that the function's recurring reporting and analysis are produced within.

• Resolve non-routine costing and accounting treatment questions where no established precedent applies, and document the position taken.

• Raise the standard of financial analysis across the function by reviewing the work of others and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

• Advise on the financial structure of new initiatives and programs, including how they will be measured once approved.

• Represent the function's financial position to stakeholders outside finance, including at leadership forums.

• Improve the control environment, data integrity, and automation for the function's planning and reporting, agreeing changes with the accounting team.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (required)

• CA, CFA, MBA, or equivalent qualification (preferred)

• Experience

o 6 years of overall finance or accounting experience (required)

o 3 years of financial planning and analysis experience, including ownership of a planning or forecast cycle (required)

o 2 years supporting an R&D, engineering, or product organization (preferred)

• Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

o Scenario and sensitivity modeling that frames decisions for leaders outside finance (required)

o Judgment on non-routine costing and treatment questions that have no established precedent (required)

o Setting reporting standards, cost definitions, and analytical tooling for a function (required)

o Influencing functional leaders and testing the assumptions behind their plans (required)

o Advanced Excel or Google Sheets, and ERP and financial reporting systems (required)

o Reviewing the work of others and mentoring less experienced colleagues (required)

o Experience in a SaaS, technology, healthcare, or high-growth company (preferred)

o BI and reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau (preferred)

Travel

This position requires limited domestic and international travel, up to 10%. To be confirmed with the hiring manager.
